HELLO FRIEND,

WELCOME!

I’m commonly asked by clients what they should

wear to their portrait sessions, so I have put

together a little guide that can help you achieve

great outfits that will work well in photos!

MOST IMPORTANTLY I WANT YOU TO FEEL

COMFORTABLE AND CONFIDENT IN YOUR

OUTFIT.

Colour Palette

A great starting point is to work with a colour palette, this doesn't mean that everyone is to be in exactly the same colour (We actually want to avoid that).

Popular Colour Palettes

-Blues & warm neutrals

-Sage & Taupe

-Green, navy & denim

You can also take inspiration from the season

Spring-Pastels, fresh greens, soft floral tones

Summer-Light neutrals, blues, warm

Autumn-Rust, mustard, olive, cream, caramel

If you get stuck soft earthy neutral tones photograph beautifully and feel natural on camera.

Texture

This can be very seasonal, the cooler months allows

you to add depth to the images with different

fabrics and layers of clothing! Thick knit jumpers,

cord dresses and leather boots give the images a

cosy feel.

And for Spring and Summer light floaty fabrics such

as linen create a beautiful natural feel to the

photos.

Patterns

Patterns are ok, they just need to well planned!

Here are some things to avoid,

-Small stripes as they can cause visual distortion.

-Logos, text or large graphics, this dates photos and draws attention away from you the subject!

-having everyone in different patterns. ie a family of 5 have max 2 or 3 people in patterns and the rest in block colours or tones.

Here is a great ways to include patterns in your family session.

-Choose one statement pattern

If one family member is wearing a patterned dress or shirt, use this as the starting point for the rest of the outfits. Pull one or two colours from the pattern and incorporate them into the other family members' clothing through simple, complementary pieces. Pair patterned pieces with textured fabrics such as linen, knitwear, denim or cotton. This creates visual interest without making the outfits feel too busy

extra tips

Things to bring to the shoot:

-Hairbrush

-Wet wipes/tissues

-Toys to get little ones attention

Maybe even some treats for in-between (best to avoid melting/ messy treats)

-Hay fever tablets if we are going to be in fields with long grass

-For babies I recommend a pair of bloomers to go over nappies.

-Check the wind forecast, if it is to be windy have a think about hair styles.

-Bring along a game, a picnic or let's pick a location where the kids can explore and have fun.
